Anatomy of a job:

Updated: Jul 16, 2019

At the beginning of the month, Converse announced the production of footwear made from recycled plastic drinks bottles.

Converse Renew.

This has been widely promoted across the press and social media.

The original reference image was quite strong and made it pretty easy to visualise what they wanted.

So I was commissioned by Anarchy LTD to create a 3D model to be fabricated for this promotion.

the above image was supplied with the brief and the process would involve a sculpt as it would give us more control than crushing a physical bottle and melting it a bit to get the shape.

Luckily I had a pair of 3D trainers from a job I worked on around 10 years ago

I find it best to 'sketch' out the shape in Maya as it helps me with topology (This is a throwback to mainly making 'rigged' models and making sure the edge flow works and bends correctly when deformed)

Some physical experimentation provided invaluable reference

Until we ended up with this. A rough render of the 3D model.
